The Benefits of French Press Coffee

Mark Ramos

If you have never tried a French Press style of coffee, you may be seriously missing out on a world of flavor. Many people are new to using a French Press, which means that the only brew method that you are familiar with is an automatic coffee maker. If this is the case, make sure that you open your mind to a French Press, which will give you the opportunity to taste a full and robust coffee brewed without a filter.

YouTube Preview Image

So many coffee connoisseurs prefer to use a Coffee Press because it is filterless, which will leave essential oils in the final coffee product. You will have more full and complex flavors within your cup of coffee, and it will be more fresh than you can imagine. If you normally prefer a lighter style of coffee, using a Coffee Press will be a better way to enjoy that kind of roast. As a rule of thumb, lighter roasted coffee is often preferred to exhibit clearer flavor characteristics. Many people normally love a dark roast, but a light coffee roast is not roasted for as long so you can taste unique flavors. There are many premium dark roasts available for sale, but keep in mind that some commercial companies will also dark roast beans that are of a poor quality to mask their flavors. If you want to enjoy the full flavors from a unique coffee growing country, a light roast will provide that for you.

If you do brew a light roast of coffee in an automatic coffee maker using a paper filter, many of the essential oils will be removed. A Coffee Press will provide you with a different point of view because the coarse coffee grounds will be pressed to the bottom of the device, and they will be separated from your coffee product. There is no filter involved whatsoever, so if you want to truly detect the actual flavors within a specific type of coffee bean, that is the way to go. To provide an example, you could be drinking a light coffee roast for the very first time when using a French Press, and it will allow you to taste unique coffee flavor characteristics.

Keep in mind that when you use a French Press, you will not use paper filters, which makes it an environmentally friendly alternative. It also does not use any type of electricity, so your French Press may be something that you want to take with you when you are camping or traveling to a distant hotel. It is a common fact that hotel coffee is definitely sub par when brewed in a tiny coffee maker, so skip it altogether and use your own Coffee Press to brew delicious coffee when traveling!

Oscar Diös is a Swedish businessman looking to invest in a new project within the aviation community. He’s already bought the venture’s first airliner, a Boeing 747-200.

However, his intention is not to start an airline, and the jet is not intended for flight. Instead, he plans to convert the airliner into a unique business which he calls the ‘Jumbo Hostel’. The 450-seat widebodied jetliner will have 25 rooms sleeping a total of 85 people, including some in a luxury suite in the cockpit, and will sit at the entrance to Stockholm-Arlanda Airport.

Would you be interested in staying in airplane hotel?

Built in 1976, the aircraft was an “old wreck” when acquired, according to Oscar. The aircraft was being offered for sale at Stolkholm-Arlanda after previous owner Transjet became bankrupt. The airframe has then been completely gutted and is being fitted with a new, modernised interior. Each room contains three bunk beds. A cafe and a walkway across the left wing are also featured.

The airliner will sit on a concrete platform at the airport’s entrance, with its landing gear secured in steel cradles. It is intended to offer a good view of the day-to-day operation of the airport.

The hostel, which is to open in December, is aimed at families with children, aviation enthusiasts, low-budget travelers and people catching early morning flights who wish to leave it as late as possible before rising to get to check-in – unlike its competitors, the Jumbo Hostel is ten minutes walk from the check-in desks.

Wikinews conducted an email interview with Oscar Diös to talk about the hostel. The full exclusive interview is available below.

After gaining strength in the western Caribbean last night, Hurricane Dean made landfall as a Category 5 storm on Mexico’s Yucatán coast at about 4:30 a.m. this morning (EDT).

The storm struck just north of Chetumal, the capital of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. However, hurricane-force winds were felt over 60 miles (~100 km) away from the center of the storm, and tropical storm conditions impacted areas 175 miles (280 km) away.

The Mexican government ordered the deployment of over 4,000 troops, and declared a state of emergency in the state of Campeche. Some areas braced for up to 20 inches (510 mm) of rain.

Dean made landfall as a category 5 storm, before being downgraded hours later to a category 3 storm. Later Tuesday afternoon, Dean was downgraded to a category 2 storm. Currently, the storm maintains category 1 status, with top sustained winds at 85 mph (137 km/h).

The hurricane moved towards modern oil installations of the Yucatan Peninsula, prompting evacuations of offshore oil rigs that produce most of Mexico’s oil and gas.

Forecasters warn the storm could pick up strength as it crosses the Bay of Campeche and turn into an even more destructive hurricane before making a second landfall on Wednesday.

A hurricane warning remains in effect along the Gulf Coast of Mexico from south of Progreso to Tampico.

Forecasters do not believe it presents a threat to the United States.

Dean is being blamed for 13 deaths already.

If you are looking to buy a car for a strictly functional purpose and not as an investment, a used car is the right choice. Why?

One of the reasons why more people are buying used cars is the freedom from the worry of that first parking-lot dent or the fading sheen of its doors. You simply have to drive the car you bought and not worry about its depreciation like you would have to if it was a new car. You can buy used cars from two sources primarily:

1. Certified dealers

2. Private party

Private Deal isnt always a Good One

A private party could be anyone from a family member to a colleague to a person you ran into on the street. It means anyone who wants to sell their car. You may think of choosing to go this way to save a few bucks because buying a used car from a private party is cheaper than buying it from a certified dealer.

But, buying from a private party does not guarantee a trouble-free experience. It involves too much risk because of the following reasons:

You may end up with a stolen car.

The warranty, if youre given any, may not really be as assuring as offered by a certified dealer.

The odometer may not really show the exact number of miles the car has traveled.

Trust and Safety

The least you deserve when you pay with your money is good product and peace of mind regarding the purchase.

A certified dealer, apart from being a trustworthy option to buy your car, will often give you great deals on roadside assistance and maintenance. He will also provide you with an extension in the warranty. Safety is a priority with dealers. If the car you buy from them is in need of a new part, they will help you to replace it with only genuine parts.

Smart Buy

It does not mean that you need not be cautious while walking into a certified dealers lot. A dealer is running a business, so to cater to as many customers as possible; he may try to rush your decision. And, he may pressure you into buying a car that you do not really want to buy. You need to remember that the buying power rests with you. And, you should only buy a car that you like.

In going to a certified dealer, the biggest risk is getting a car you did not really want. You can avoid the risk by being aware of your options and having an estimate ready in your mind. If you know exactly how much money you want to spend on a car, the purchase becomes easy.

You can always refer to NADA Guides and Kelley Blue Book in order to get the right price for a used car in your area along with other information for any model that you want to buy. Researching on your own before you walk into a dealership is never a bad idea.

If you go into the dealership already aware of the expected warranty and cost of the used car model you want to buy, you cannot make a wrong decision. Choose a certified dealer, work out the specifics, and you will have a car which will last a long time in your care.

The United States Congress passed a US$787 billion stimulus package late Friday night, in an effort to curb the recession and boost the faltering US economy.

The bill was passed by a vote of 60&ndashp;38, barely reaching the minimum number of 60 votes needed to make the bill a law. Only three Republican senators voted for the measure. Shortly before the Senate vote, the US House of Representatives approved of the stimulus by a margin of 246–183, with all 176 Republicans and seven Democrats voting against the bill.

The Senate vote was delayed until night so that Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown could fly back from Ohio, where his mother had recently died. He cast the final and decisive sixtieth vote in favor of the stimulus bill.

President Barack Obama is expected to sign the bill into law in Denver, Colorado on Tuesday, February 17.

“This is a major milestone on our road to recovery, and I want to thank the members of Congress who came together in common purpose to make it happen,” Obama said in his weekly address. “I will sign this legislation into law shortly, and we’ll begin making the immediate investments necessary to put people back to work doing the work America needs done. This historic step won’t be the end of what we do to turn our economy around, but the beginning.”

This is a major milestone on our road to recovery

64% of the stimulus package is intended for spending and money for social programmes, while another 34% is devoted to tax cuts. The plan also limits cash bonuses and incentive compensations for Wall Street executives. Over $48 billion of the stimulus has been reserved for transportation projects, such as high-speed rail, road, and bridge construction. Tens of billions more will be used for funding states to prevent any cuts that they would otherwise be forced to make to aid local governments and schools.

Do you think that the stimulus package will help the economy?
Add or view comments

Democrats say that the plan will help create three and a half million jobs, and that the plan’s tax cuts will help 95% of all US residents, mainly with the use of $800 breaks for couples and $400 for individuals. Those who do not earn enough money to pay income taxes will also be eligible for the breaks. Additionally, breaks will be given to first-time homebuyers and car buyers, in an effort to give a boost to two industries badly affected by the recession.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid said that the stimulus package was the most important legislation that he had ever worked on. “The country is in trouble and we’re so fortunate we were able to get it passed. It’s going to give this country a shot in the arm.”

The bill that was about jobs, jobs, jobs has turned into a bill that’s about spending, spending, spending

Others, however, such as Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell, are highly critical of the plan. “This isn’t Monopoly money. It’s real. It adds up, and it has to be paid back, by our children and by their children,” he said, adding that it “is unlikely to have much stimulative effect.”

“The bill that was about jobs, jobs, jobs has turned into a bill that’s about spending, spending, spending,” said House Republican leader John Boehner from Ohio, throwing a copy of the bill on the floor in protest.

Last week, the House of Representatives passed a stimulus package worth $825 billion with no support from Republicans. Shortly thereafter, the Senate passed a slightly different version of the bill worth $838 billion. The differences between the two bills had to be bridged in a Senate-House committee before it was voted upon in both houses.

The European Commission has warned Microsoft that features the company intends to include in its next version of Windows known as Windows Vista may breach the European Union’s antitrust laws.

The EU’s commissioner in charge of competition, Neelie Kroes, wrote to Steve Ballmer CEO of Microsoft last week informally warning him that Microsoft’s plans to include security features, search tools, copyright protection services and an application to create documents similar to Adobe’s PDF files into Vista would violate European antitrust laws, according to her spokesman Jonathan Todd.

Mr. Todd said that the commission was worried that features Microsoft plans to include in Vista may prevent customers from choosing their own software combinations. He emphasised that the letter was not a signal of a formal antitrust inquiry into Windows Vista.

The commission wrote the letter following a letter from Microsoft asking them to indicate if there were any possible competition issues with the new system. Mr. Todd said: “We assume that Microsoft has its own interests at heart. It wants to launch another product without having to worry about the Commission instituting various actions under antitrust law.”

Microsoft’s top lawyer in Europe, Horacio Guttierez, said Wednesday that adding such functions into the operating system was essential if Microsoft was to meet customer demand. “I know consumers want more secure computer systems,” he said.

Windows Vista includes software called Windows Defender, which seeks out and removes spyware and adware. Guttierez claims that forcing Microsoft to sell Windows without Defender “is a bit like forcing BMW to sell cars without airbags”.

“We have a responsibility to make our products better and more secure for our customers,” he said.

2012 US presidential election candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney took part Monday in their third and final presidential debate at Lynn University in Florida. The topic of the debate was foreign policy and the candidates discussed the Arab Spring, Iran, and Mali, among other issues.

Mr. Obama criticised Mr. Romney’s foreign policy positions as “all over the map”. “Every time you have offered an opinion you have been wrong.” “You said we should have gone into Iraq, despite the fact there were no weapons of mass destruction. You said we should still have troops in Iraq to this day. You said we shouldn’t be passing nuclear treaties with Russia.” Mr. Romney countered saying Mr. Obama had failed to take proper advantage of the Arab Spring: “I congratulate him on taking out Osama bin Laden and going after the leadership of al-Qaeda, but we can’t kill our way out of this mess”.

Mr. Romney said Mr. Obama was proposing military budget cuts. He said “the highest responsibility of the President of the United states … is to maintain the safety of the American people, and I will not cut our military budget by a trillion dollars… That in my view is making our future less certain and less secure”. Mr. Obama accused Mr. Romney of not properly understanding modern defense priorities. “You mention the navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets. Because the nature of the military has changed. We have these things called aircraft carriers, where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines”.

Well governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets. Because the nature of the military has changed. We have these things called aircraft carriers, where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines”.

Mr. Romney criticized his opponent for visiting the Middle East on an “apology tour”, and said he would be tougher with Iran. “I think from the very beginning, one of the challenges we’ve had with Iran is that they have looked at this administration and felt that the administration was not as strong as it needed to be. We’re four years closer to a nuclear Iran and we should not have wasted these four years.” Mr. Obama said he would stand with Israel against Iranian threats but added that the main national security concern was terrorist networks. He said his administration had focused on “those who actually killed us on 9/11” and said that under his leadership, “al-Qaeda’s core leadership has been decimated”. Mr. Romney said northern Mali had been taken over by “al-Qaeda-type individuals” .

Mr. Romney criticized China for “holding down artificially the value of their currency”. He added “on day one, I will label them a currency manipulator, which allows us to apply tariffs where they’re taking jobs.” Mr. Obama countered saying under Mr. Romney’s policy America would be “buying cars from China instead of selling cars to China”.

A poll, taken by CBS straight after the debate, indicated 53% of voters thought Mr. Obama had done better, while only 23% thought Mr. Romney had done better.

Both candidates now have plans for continued campaigning ahead of the election on November 6. Mr. Obama is to travel through Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Iowa, Colorado, and Nevada as well as appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in a two-day “America Forward Tour”. Mr. Romney is to hold two joint rallies with his vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan in Nevada and Colorado before going on to campaign in Iowa and Ohio. Mr. Romney’s advisers said he would also consider making a speech on government spending and debt in the next few days.
